Becoming No. 05

Becoming No. 05 is a one-of-a-kind ceramic vessel shaped by hand, with the surface almost entirely enveloped by glaze.

The form follows the familiar silhouette explored throughout the collection — balanced and quiet — while the surface becomes softer and more atmospheric. Unlike other pieces in the series, very little of the raw clay body remains exposed, allowing colour and melting glaze to define the character of the work.

Warm browns and deeper chocolate tones sit beneath layers of pink, with small passages of yellow and textured, lava-like areas formed through the firing. A faint wash of pale blue moves gently across sections of the surface, appearing and disappearing within the warmer palette. The result feels less structured and more painterly, as if the colours settled into place on their own.

Becoming No. 05 belongs to the Becoming collection — a small body of work exploring variation, material, and the transformation created inside the kiln. Each piece exists only once and cannot be repeated.
