Becoming No. 01

Becoming No. 01 is a one-of-a-kind ceramic vessel shaped by hand using a rich chocolate clay body, allowing the natural character of the material to remain visible across the surface.

The silhouette is a form my hands return to instinctively — a classic vase shape that feels balanced and familiar. Within this collection I kept the form constant and released control elsewhere, working across different clays and glazes so each firing could transform the piece beyond what I could fully predict.

Areas of the clay remain exposed while layered glazes melt and move in the kiln. Warm honey and yellow-brown tones settle into the surface alongside soft blues, with gentle drips and transitions created entirely through the heat of the firing. The result feels less applied and more revealed, as if the colours emerged from the clay itself.

Becoming No. 01 belongs to the Becoming collection — a small body of work exploring variation, material, and surrender to the alchemy of the kiln. Each piece exists only once and cannot be repeated.
